Chelsea 4-2 Brighton: Report
Cole Palmer became the first player ever to score four goals in the first half of a Premier League game!
It was an entertaining match at Stamford Bridge with Palmer also hitting the post and having one goal ruled out for offside.
Brighton took an early lead through Georginio Rutter who headed home in the 7th minute after being found by Carlos Baleba. Chelsea then went on a relentless 2 and half minutes that saw Palmer hit the post, score and offside goal and then netting the equaliser after meeting a pass from his forward partner, Nicolas Jackson.
Jadon Sancho was brought down in the box minutes later and Cole Palmer converted his 10th consecutive successful penalty for Chelsea for goal number 2. The slicker attacker completed his hat trick seconds or minutes later curling a brilliant free kick into the top corner from 25 yards out.
Carlos Baleba capitalised on a poor Sanchez ball in to reduce the deficit and give the visitors a glimmer of hope but Cole Palmer had the last and final say as he turned in Sancho’s Pass minutes before half time to seal victory for Chelsea!
Unstoppable Palmer
- Cole Palmer has now scored three hat-tricks in the Premier League for Chelsea- no player has scored more.
- It is the second time he is scoring four goals in a game.
- Cole Palmer is the first Chelsea player to score 20 Premier League goals in a calendar year since Diego Costa’s 21 in 2016.
Just a reminder that Cole Palmer is among the nominees for the Balón d’Or!
