David Peterson sealed the win for New York, inducing a game-ending double play off the bat of Brice Turang after giving up a single to Sal Frelick. Fittingly, the play involved Lindor, who had carried the Mets’ offense until the late-game heroics from Nimmo and Alonso.
Milwaukee’s offense had been similarly quiet until the seventh inning when Jake Bauers delivered a pinch-hit home run off Mets reliever José Buttó. Sal Frelick then followed with a solo shot of his own on the next pitch, giving the Brewers a temporary 2-0 lead.
Tobias Myers shone for the Brewers, tossing five shutout innings, surrendering just two hits—both by Lindor—while striking out five. Myers capped off a dominant series, having thrown nine scoreless innings with just three hits allowed across two appearances.
On the Mets’ side, veteran starter Jose Quintana was equally impressive, scattering four hits over six scoreless frames, striking out five. Quintana’s 94-pitch effort ended emphatically as he fanned Willy Adames and Gary Sánchez to close out the sixth inning.
Edwin Díaz and Peterson combined for 2 2/3 shutout innings after Buttó’s struggles, with Díaz walking two but striking out three to help set up the Mets’ dramatic ninth-inning comeback. Now, the Mets move on to the NL Division Series to face the Philadelphia Phillies, riding the momentum of their thrilling 4-2 victory.
